I challenge you all to make at least 4 non-routine goals for the upcoming week and reference them daily. Use them to guide your actions when you have free time. These are my goals for the week of 5/31/21.
There will be 4 goals this week. I will test my wits as I try to adhere to red meat free eating while traveling for work. As I transition from development of fantasy block app to maintenance I will update my feature to do list so I know what items still need to be addressed. I will start clearing the way for God to bless my family with new home be circumcising my home office space that I don’t use by purging items. Lastly, I plan on executing the writing and recording of the 17th God and You Podcast episode.
I set 5 goals for myself the week of 5/24/21 and to be transparent I’ve posted what they were. The red “x” indicates which ones I actually completed. I executed 4/5 of the goals.
I updated my grocery matrix spreadsheet to hopefully get better control on grocery spending. I discovered several helpful tips to improve the sound quality on my podcast which I stared implementing this past week. I’ve been very blessed that I haven’t personally had to deal with being unemployed in an impactful way and had to deal with the government process associated with it. However, I have witnessed other go through it. I believe more needs to be done to encourage to break free from resources like unemployment pay checks and food stamps. There are too many people I’ve heard of that will literally quit their job or miss work on purpose so they can stay below a certain income level to retain benefits from government resources. Somehow, we have a system where inaction is rewarded. I think that things like unemployment and food stamps should be intended for temporary situations. People shouldn’t camp on these systems for months and years without any form of tangible effort or progress being made. First off, I would mandate that people on the system get tested for drug use on regular basis. I know some people have issue with that but in my opinion a person isn’t staying cleaning it will make it hard for them to get a job or have better life. Folks don’t make good decision when under influence of drugs or alcohol. That’s why we have laws around that. If a person can’t pass a drug test for their benefits they likely won’t pass if they do get a job and must endure pre-employment screening. Second, folks need to show that they have made efforts to apply to job on monthly basis. I would say a person needs to have at least 4 job interviews a month to show they are trying. Third, the person should have to attend some kind of life skills classes or sessions to help them better themselves. They need to demonstrate some accountability or effort towards not being stuck. Lastly, folks need to be penalized if they try to get a job and get fired purposely. People should receive less benefits if start recycling thru system frequently which would indicate potential funny business.
I recently completed my provisional patent application and was working with my lawyer on filing it. The paralegal tried to say I had to pay $400 or $900 dollars for the filing fee when originally, I was told it was $75. So, I went on the USPTO website and couldn’t figure out how the $400 or $900 fee was calculated and challenged the paralegal. Found out the paralegal made a mistake and I only had to pay the $75. So just by asking I went from paying $900 to $75. Thanks to God for putting on my heart and mind to investigate the filing fees. This brings me to the business 101 article this week. Don’t be afraid to see what value you can get out of a situation. Never assume that the initial price or costs of something is what you must pay. If you are at a store shopping, ask the employees if there are any discounts, coupons, or sales available. When handling your business tasks ask if the price can be lowered if you don’t like what you hear. If the other party ask you what you think costs should be, figure out what your preferred number is. Throw out a lower number and leave room for negotiation if need be. Sometimes when you try to get better value for the product or service you are purchasing the other party will simply tell you no. Other times, you might find out someone made a calculation error or forgot to charge your correctly. However, even if you encounter 2/10 situations where costs have been lowered that’s money that can be set aside for something else.

I think the inappropriateness of content on television has increased over the years. Yes, I watch rated R television and movies at times. However, today I want to attack what is shown on everyday regular channels like CBS, FOX, ABC, NBC, etc. We have television programs and award shows where folks are using light duty curse words, having aggressive violence, sexual storylines, and barely dressed folks performing. What happened to the days where you didn’t have to be halfway embarrassed when watching a singer or rapper perform because they had less clothes on than women at strip clubs? Again, I’m not talking about cable channels or streaming services. I’m talking about regular every day channels our news is shown on. I must tell my kids to leave the room or not look when some of these shows come on. If I was the one regulating content on TV screen. I would ban any cuss words, aggressive kills, drug use, and sexual scenes for the major family networks. If someone wants to see shows demonstrating those kinds of acts, they either pay for cable channels or streaming platforms. The shows also I guess would have option of making a family friendly version of their show and a more extreme version like music. I simply don’t think it’s fair for everyday folks to have their family and kids subjected to that be default.

According, to Heart.org the daily amount of sugar a human should intake daily is 36 grams for men and 25 grams for women. However, food and beverage companies seem to not always align with that when you look at amount of sugar in a serving. You could easily eat a Hershey bar or can of pop and exceed your daily sugar intake in less than a few minutes and not be anywhere close to full. People try to associate how big the sweet is with how many grams of sugar are included and that’s not always a great indicator. Its best to be able to check the labels on the food or drinks you consume. I personally, will look at different sweets in the store and read the label to see how many carbs are in it. Usually, if a product has more than my allotted daily amount of sugar than I won’t place it in my cart. The more sugar Americans have consumed over time the bigger and unhealthier we have gotten. A lot of the illnesses we experience are preventable if we eat and exercise better. If I were running things, I would require food and beverage producers to not produce products that have more than the allotted daily amount of sugar in one serving. There is really no reason why a single serving of cake for example is 4x the daily amount of sugar. The label would need to clearly call out the nutritional amount of one serving. Lastly, if an item were for single person, one time consumption like a candy bar or drink than the product couldn’t exceed the daily recommended amount of sugar in one package or container. For example, a can of pop would have to be under 36 grams total. I believe educating people more on what they are consuming and limiting the damage they can do from consumption would reduce sugar intake over time for Americans.
